These values help us set goals based on our organization’s potential and what we hope it will become.   The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, R&D serves as the internal technical/subject matter expert for one or more core technologies represented by the surgical product line (e.g. pneumatic vitrectomy, electro-surgery, fluid management, ultrasound transmission, fiber optic energy transmission, system integration). He or she provides technical guidance and makes substantial individual contributions to facilitate the mechanical design of new medical equipment and devices for ophthalmic surgery. He or she provides comprehensive product development services from conceptual design to product release. He or she may offer expert guidance to facilitate approvals of modifications to existing designs, assessments of acceptability of non-conforming parts, and troubleshooting of product complaints. The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer may provide technical and/or project leadership for select new product development activities. The Principal Mechanical Design Engineer provides technical mentorship and supervision to less experienced engineers as required.   No direct reports. However, the Principal Mechanical Engineer is expected to provide technical mentoring to other engineers.  He or she may, but is not required to, act as a functional/reporting supervisor in this role.
