Position Summary:

The Benefits Manager manages, administers, develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates the U.S. benefit programs offered to all active, terminated, and retired employees. Responsible for ensuring programs meet employee needs, comply with legal requirements and the provisions of Plan Documents, and are competitive. Requires a bachelor's degree in a related area and at least 5 -7 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for managing the following benefit programs.

  • Healthcare: Medical, Pharmacy, Dental and Vision
  • COBRA
  • Group, Voluntary and Dependent Term Life
  • Short and Long Term Disability, LOA
  • Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Employee Assistance Plan
  • Group Legal
  • Advocacy Services
  • Wellness Programs

 

  • Manages plan vendors.
  • Establishes and oversees all Benefit Plans in HRIS via outsourced vendor; monitors eligibility files and works with vendors to resolve any errors that occur.
  • Ensures company compliance with provisions of ERISA and ACA. Review and analyze changes to benefit laws and report or suggest necessary changes to management.
  • Maintains plan documents, certificates, and benefit information. Creates, implements, and interprets benefit policies and procedures.  Identifies ways of improving and/or automating benefit processes and procedures.
  • Oversees preparation of and reporting needs for government and compliance forms/reporting; i.e., Form 5500, non-discrimination testing, audit census files, plan documents and required notices.
  • Coordinates annual Open Enrollment, including working with vendors to review and enhance process and user experience. Implements new benefits, calculates premiums, coordinates with vendor to ensure HRIS is updated with benefit plans/rates, and tests the online enrollment system for accuracy.
  • Develops announcements and communications regarding benefit plans to employees.
  • Audits new plan and new vendor elections to ensure 100% accuracy before transmitting coverage to vendors and updating payroll deductions.
  • Approves benefits billing statements and administrative invoices for payment. Discrepancies are researched and resolved timely.
  • Completes benefit surveys, analyzes results and provides recommendations for plan design changes to maintain cost-effective benefit offerings.
  • Handle benefits inquiries and complaints to ensure timely and courteous resolution.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Five to seven years of experience specializing in employee benefits. Experience should include exposure to the following benefit programs: medical, prescription, dental, vision, FSA, HSA, life insurance, short and long term disability, EAP, and 401(k).

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resource Administration, Accounting, or a closely related field of study preferred.

 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of management, employees, and their family members.  Must be able to coordinate communication between multiple parties.

  • Must have experience working with an HRIS; ADP Workforce Now experience is a plus.
