The Planning manager is responsible for generating a supply plan that maximizes global customer service in the most cost effective manner, while optimizing manufacturing efficiencies.


This position will supervise 7 direct reports. 


Scope of Position: 

The Planning Manager oversees a department of professional planners and material clerks responsible for:

  • Fulfilling product requirements for more than a dozen global distribution centers
  • Scheduling of 7 primary manufacturing lines and one single dose line that produce over 170 million bottles of solution
  • Managing Contract packagers used to provide additional packaging options for commercial needs


  • Monitor stock positions in DC’s and relevant intercompany orders to appropriately develop the supply plan. 
  • Analyze and interpret demand signals and their impact on the manufacturing site.  Work with operations to develop a plan that meets these requirements.  
  • Establish capacity / load measures based on manufacturing performance and demand makeup. 
  • Provide guidance to commercial team related to any potential service or backorder issues.  
  • Monitor performance to established metrics and create appropriate counter measures to any negative trends.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of all relevant planning systems parameters used by the facility.
  • Integral participant in plant budgeting process.  Supply load and corresponding configuration changes in coming year to allow operations to determine appropriate labor models.
  • Work closely with purchasing staff on relevant issues pertaining to the demand and supply of Raw Materials and packaging components.
  • Responsible for department budget.  Actively monitor overall spend to remain within budget. 
  • Manage and provide guidance to production planners and material clerks.  Give regular feedback to team and complete and deliver annual performance reviews. 
  • Lead team on projects related to Production Planning improvements.   
  • Execute other managerial and operational disciplines of the Planning Department as and when required.
  • Maintain the credibility of the department within the Organization, through a professional and mature approach and by delivering on commitments. 

Key Relationships: 

  • Works closely with quality, operations and maintenance to coordinate production schedules with necessary compliance and maintenance activities.
  • Must Work within Key cGMP Guidelines:
    • Follow Standard Operating Procedures while carrying out tasks within manufacturing operations at all times.
    • Follow Gowning Procedures and entry rules for all manufacturing and other controlled areas as applicable.
    • Understand and follow Personal Hygiene Rules as defined in the GMP Training Program.
    • Participate fully in all GMP training programs as identified and complete all Training Records in an accurate and timely manner.


  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or advanced degree a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing planning/procurement with comprehensive knowledge of Planning/Scheduling/Inventory Management and a detailed understanding of all other Supply Chain functions
  • APICS - CPIM or CSCP certification desired
  • Consumer goods experience a plus
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Focused on Customer Service and delivering Key Operational Measurements
  • Ability to act as a Team player, or independently, and with excellent multi-tasking ability and attention to detail
  • Must have a solid understanding of MRP/ERP software and the ability to configure settings to produce the desired result.  The facility uses several systems (ERPLx, Manugistics (JDA), PeopleSoft) that share data and the ability to reconcile them is a must.
  • Ability to use Excel at an advanced level
